Non-Governmental Organizations

There are a growing number of non-governmental organizations which collaborate, advocate and/or conduct research in support of the sustainable management of water resources. Many smaller organizations form at the watershed level with the objective of local protection and management.

Some of the organizations which advocate on a national perspective include:
The CWRA is a national organization of individuals and organizations interested in the management of water resources.

The Foundation's Fresh Water Program advocates the development of a framework for the protection of fresh water resources for future generations.

This national environmental organization advocates for practical solutions to environmental issues. Water Management is one of its major programs.

  • Canadian Climate Impacts and Adaptation Research Network (CIARN)
The CIARN, which closed in 2007, promoted climate change research and interaction among researchers and stakeholders. The organization's website included links and documents on the impacts on water resources and the adapation issues. The website is no longer up (2011) and its research and papers can be located by searching the internet.
