General Information

Nunavut has 21% of Canada's freshwater.

The federal Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) has overarching responsibility for managing and regulating the water resources of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.. The department's Water Management and Water Resources webpages provide information on AANDC's role and the relevant legislation and regulatory processes.

The Nunavut Water Board (NWB) is an Institution of of Public Government that operates at arm's length from government and has responsibilities and powers over the management, use and regulation of inland water in the Nunavut Settlement Area.
